A man suspected of auto theft was injured Thursday morning after he crashed his car into a Salt Lake City home.
The investigation began downtown Salt Lake City where officers from the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Utah State Tax Commission spotted a stolen vehicle in a parking lot at 200 South and 300 East.
A man got in the vehicle and officers approached him. The suspect allegedly rammed the stolen vehicle into two police vehicles and fled the scene.
"There was not a chase or a pursuit of that. Our officers notified all the other agencies and [the suspect] ended up eastbound here on California Avenue about 10 minutes later," said Charlie Roberts of the Division of Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
The stolen vehicle crashed into a home at 1465 W. California Avenue. No one was in the house at the time. The suspect was injured in the crash. He was pinned inside the vehicle and unconscious when he was extricated.
The suspect was taken to Intermountain Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Two dogs were killed in the crash.
